Dolphin or Polaris: the useful answer
Compare exact cleaners, not a brand-wide winner. Polaris sells robotic cleaners as well as pressure-side equipment, so “Dolphin versus Polaris” can hide a comparison between different systems. For two documented robots, the Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus w/Wi-Fi is a candidate when floor-and-wall cleaning is enough; the Polaris VRX iQ+ adds a documented Waterline Only mode, retrieval assistance and an included caddy. Those features do not prove better cleaning performance.
This comparison uses US manufacturer documentation checked on . It is research analysis, without physical testing, cleaning scores or a claimed reliability winner. The two models illustrate how to decide; they do not represent every Dolphin or Polaris cleaner.
First, establish which cleaner type you are comparing
If a listing says Polaris, read the exact model and power system. A pressure-side cleaner and a corded robot involve different installation questions. Do not carry a conclusion about one system across to every product with that badge.
The VRX iQ+ discussed here is a corded robot with a floating cable. It is not a pressure-side cleaner or a cordless battery model. Use our Polaris VRX iQ+ guide and Dolphin exact-model guide to identify the units you are considering before comparing features.
Two exact robotic models, compared
| Decision factor | Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus w/Wi-Fi | Polaris VRX iQ+ |
|---|---|---|
| Model identifier | 99996409-PCI | FVRXIQP |
| Pool application | In-ground; US table lists maximum length 40 ft | In-ground; confirm pool fit with the dealer |
| Waterline requirement | US specification explicitly lists waterline scrubbing: No | Manufacturer lists a Waterline Only cleaning mode |
| Filtration information | Top access; Ultra-Fine Filter Kit in the specification table | 5 L illuminated canister; dirty-canister indicator |
| Connected control | MyDolphin Plus; weekly timer listed | iAquaLink; custom in-app scheduling |
| Retrieval and storage | Check the supplied manual and seller bundle | Easy Lift Removal; transport caddy included |
| Cable versus coverage | Use its published pool-length rating | 70 ft cable; cable length is not a pool-length rating |

Let the required surfaces eliminate unsuitable options
Wall climbing does not automatically mean waterline scrubbing. If the waterline is the task you want to delegate, require an explicit statement for that exact model. The compared Nautilus Wi-Fi specification says No; the VRX iQ+ lists a dedicated mode. Another Dolphin model may have different coverage.
This makes VRX iQ+ the more relevant of these two candidates for a waterline requirement. It does not establish that it removes every stain or handles every pool transition. For a wider shortlist, use our wall and waterline selection guide.
Compare filter suitability separately from basket size
A canister’s volume and a filter’s particle-retention specification answer different questions. A larger container can be convenient to empty, but its litre rating alone does not tell you whether fine particles will pass through. Likewise, a filter label is not an independently measured cleanup result.
Ask the seller which filter is included with the exact SKU, which replacement fits, and whether alternative media are available. Maytronics’ current page uses both fine-filtration wording and an Ultra-Fine Filter Kit specification; confirm the supplied kit rather than treating marketing labels as interchangeable. We omit a comparative micron ranking because equivalent evidence was not established.
Evaluate the work you still have to do
Picture a complete session: carry the robot out, lay out its cable, start a cycle, retrieve it, empty the filter and store the equipment. A feature matters when it removes a task your household finds difficult.
The Polaris brochure documents Easy Lift and the caddy. Those are useful reasons to investigate its handling, rather than evidence that it is lighter in every circumstance. The Maytronics-linked manual says to lift by the handle rather than the cable and disconnect power before servicing. Read the instructions supplied with your purchased model; do not transfer lifting directions between brands.
Both documentation sets describe app features. Decide whether scheduling is useful to you, then confirm network and account requirements. Remote convenience is separate from how much debris a robot removes. A shorter advertised cycle also does not prove more thorough cleaning.
Get a complete ownership quote
Compare actual quotes for the same region and date. Include the supplied filter, caddy, replacement media, brushes and access to service. Ask which seller provides warranty support, what shipping or diagnostic charges can apply, and which components are covered.
We do not use a sale price, rebate threshold or brand-level warranty claim to declare a value winner. Maytronics’ current US table lists one year for this exact Wi-Fi SKU; confirm the terms attached to your purchase. Different markets or similarly named models can differ. We have not verified a matching model-specific Polaris warranty here, so no warranty advantage is assigned.
A practical decision checklist
- Identify the models: record full names, SKU, country and cleaner type.
- Check fit: measure your pool and confirm the surface, shape and coverage requirements with the seller.
- Choose required tasks: floor, walls and waterline are separate criteria.
- Confirm maintenance: obtain filter and consumable part numbers before purchasing.
- Price the complete package: compare current written quotes and local service arrangements.
- Resolve remaining unknowns: ask for a model-specific answer or a suitable demonstration instead of accepting a brand slogan.
For these two models, shortlist the Nautilus Wi-Fi when its stated coverage matches your needs; shortlist VRX iQ+ when the extra documented waterline and handling features solve a specific problem. If neither fits, return to our broader pool-robot buying guide.
Questions worth checking before buying
Is every Polaris pool cleaner pressure-side?
No. VRX iQ+ is a documented robotic model. Identify the exact cleaner type before discussing plumbing, cable handling or charging.
Which brand lasts longer?
This research does not establish a lifespan winner. Warranty terms and published features are not comparative failure-rate evidence. Ask about service and parts for the specific model.
Can I compare these exact models in RobotMyHome?
Yes. Open their sourced side-by-side comparison. Missing specifications remain unconfirmed; a highlighted difference is not a performance verdict.
Methodology and sources
RobotMyHome compared cleaner type, documented coverage, filtration information, connected control, retrieval and ownership questions. Recommendations are conditional fit decisions, not rankings from testing. No cleaning scores, energy-cost estimates or reliability statistics were invented. Product pages can contain inconsistent wording; unresolved details are flagged or omitted.
