When should you change robot lawn mower blades?

Replace worn or damaged blades promptly, and use the maintenance interval for your exact mower and cutting disc. There is no single interval for all robot lawn mower blades. Match the approved blade set and fasteners to the model, follow its shutdown and replacement instructions, and check the required free movement after installation.

This maintenance guide compares official guidance from Husqvarna, Worx, Segway Navimow and Mammotion. It is source-based ownership advice, not a physical blade test, an aftermarket ranking or a universal dismantling procedure.

Replacement intervals: compare the model and the unit

Official guidance checked 12 October 2026; inspect sooner when wear or damage is evident
Documented scopeManufacturer guidanceHow to use it
Husqvarna Automower main discTypical blade life of 3–6 weeks under normal conditionsAn estimate, not a guarantee; lawn conditions and operation affect wear.
Husqvarna Automower EdgeCut discGenerally 9–12 weeksApplies to the separate EdgeCut disc on equipped models, not the main disc.
Worx Landroid Vision1–2 months with daily use; approximately 100–200 operating hours depending on conditionsKeep both the usage conditions and model scope attached to the figure.
Segway Navimow iReplace blades and screws every 1–2 months with regular useThe cited i-series article does not establish the interval for every Navimow generation.
Segway Navimow X4Replace blades and screws every 80 working hours with regular useUse working hours and the X4 procedure; do not substitute the i-series instructions.

Our practical recommendation: record the replacement date and working-hour reading together. Calendar time and mowing time answer different questions; a robot stored for a month has a different usage history from one mowing daily. Do not turn a manufacturer estimate into a promise that damaged blades can remain installed until the next reminder.

Look at the cut, then inspect safely

Husqvarna identifies frayed or whitened grass tips and visible blade wear or damage as replacement signals. Worx similarly points to torn or frayed grass and damaged cutting edges. These signs justify an inspection; they do not establish that blades are the only possible cause of an unsatisfactory lawn.

Follow your mower’s shutdown and isolation instructions before handling the underside, and wear the prescribed protective gloves. Record whether the change followed a stone strike, new lawn debris, altered schedule or a different mowing area. Our editorial checklist is to compare these observations with the model’s maintenance guidance before making a parts purchase.

Husqvarna notes that mowing frequency, grass and soil conditions, seasonal growth and obstacles affect wear. If replacements are becoming unusually frequent, examine the lawn and operating conditions as well as the parts. Our uneven-yard guide covers site constraints that deserve attention when choosing or operating a mower.

Buy a compatible set, not just a similar-looking blade

The purchase needs to match the complete mower model and cutting assembly. Ask the manufacturer or authorized parts supplier to confirm the approved blade kit and the included screws or other fasteners. A product photo, coating name or “universal robot mower” label is insufficient evidence of fit.

  • Record the mower model, generation and regional product identifier.
  • Identify which cutting disc you are servicing, including any separate edge disc.
  • Confirm the approved kit, quantity and fastener requirements against the current manual.
  • Check whether washers or other supplied pieces belong in the documented assembly.
  • Obtain a price for a complete service set rather than comparing pack sizes alone.

For example, Mammotion’s blade-maintenance instructions illustrate blades installed with washers and screws, specify approved original parts, and prohibit reusing screws. That assembly detail must not be copied to a mower with a different fastening system.

We have not verified the fit, strength or longevity of aftermarket kits. Use the manufacturer’s approved-parts guidance as the decision standard. A “long-life” coating claim alone does not establish compatible mounting or lower total ownership cost.

Replacement: use the model’s sequence

The shared principle is to make the mower safe to handle before accessing its cutting system. The exact shutdown, battery isolation, disc access and fastening sequence come from the model’s manual. A stopped mowing job or an app pause should not be treated as a substitute for those instructions.

Documented example: Navimow i

Segway’s cited i-series guide says to wear heavy-duty gloves, turn the mower off and place it upside down on a clean, soft surface. Remove the three screws and blades with a cross-tip screwdriver, install new blades and screws, and confirm that the blades pivot freely. Open the complete instructions and verify that they apply to your mower before starting.

Why the same instructions do not fit Navimow X4

The X4 guide describes access through blade discs and upper covers, with a separate access note for the upper blades. This is a different assembly from the simple i-series example. Use the X4 instructions rather than a generic three-screw tutorial. This procedural distinction is documentation analysis, not an X4 hands-on review.

Replace required fasteners and check movement

Husqvarna calls for new screws when replacing blades, one blade per screw, and free pivoting after installation; it warns against mixed blade types or old and new blades on a disc. Mammotion likewise requires all cutting blades and screws to be replaced together and advises against using an electric screwdriver on the disc.

Free pivoting in these documented systems is intended movement, not an invitation to leave screws loose. Follow the specified installation method. If a screw, mount or disc is damaged, or the blade binds after correct assembly, stop and seek the manufacturer’s service advice instead of improvising a repair.

Track the job and recurring cost

Keep a simple service record: model, disc, kit identifier, date, mowing-hour reading, condition observed and next inspection reminder. If your mower provides a blade-usage timer, use its documented reset procedure after replacement. An app timer supplements inspection; it does not measure the sharpness or structural condition of every blade.

For budgeting, calculate the cost of one complete manufacturer-approved replacement job, including required fasteners and any labor. Compare your actual replacement frequency over the season. This guide does not assert a universal annual cost or a current cheapest supplier.

For wider ownership planning, see the robot lawn mower selection guide and mower shelter and storage guide. The Automower 310 Mark II product record helps distinguish that exact mower from other Husqvarna models; confirm its own manual for service instructions.

Questions owners ask

Can I replace only one worn blade?

Follow the complete-set requirement for your mower. Husqvarna warns against mixing old and new blades, and Mammotion requires simultaneous replacement of blades and screws. Do not assume that one blade’s condition proves the rest of a set is fit to retain.

Should I sharpen or flip robot mower blades?

Only if the exact manufacturer instructions authorize that operation. The replacement instructions cited here do not establish a universal sharpening or flipping procedure. Do not transfer guidance from a conventional mower or an older robot generation.

Does a blade reminder mean the mower can run until that date?

No. The interval is maintenance guidance, not clearance to operate damaged hardware. Inspect and act on the condition of the blade and cutting assembly according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Sources and research method

Official sources checked 12 October 2026. Intervals above retain their product scope, units and conditions. RobotMyHome has not physically tested these blades or measured their wear. We omitted unsupported aftermarket comparisons, universal torque values and parts prices. Consult the current regional manual before servicing.
